So what can you do to prevent a dryer vent fire? I have gathered the top warning signs as listed below.

- Timed cycle not drying in one load. (Excessive dry times, point directly to the dryer vent system) This sign means there is potentially excessive amount of lint build up inside your dryer.

-Automatic cycle stops before clothes are dry.  (clothes still damp at end of cycle)

-You notice lint on your clothing. This means the vent could be blocked and the lint is being pushed back into the dryer.

-If you notice the top of your dryer is hot to the touch. This is a sure sign that the dryer is not venting the hot air outside. Hot air that doesn’t vent will cause a dryer’s top to be hotter than normal.

-Articles of clothing are hotter than normal. If you open the door and the clothes are to hot to touch you need a vent inspection.

-Burning smell.  If you notice any kind of burning smell when your dryer is in use stop it immediately and call for service.  (lint inside the dryer and or vent system could potential catch on fire)

-No lint visible on the lint screen. This is a sure sign the vent is clogged.

-Premature failure of the internal parts. If your motor or rollers needed replaced in a relatively short amount of time the dryer vent could have help caused the issue. Failure of the dryers internal parts are common in the appliance repair field.
